THE IRISH DRAUGHT COLT FOAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Delivered by Horse Sport Ireland and funded under National Breeding Services by the Department of Agriculture, Food, and the Marine.

RULES AND CONDITIONS

  1. This competition is open to animals, with the breed code ID, registered in The Irish Draught Horse Studbook (or a harmonised Irish Draught Studbook) with recorded breeding.
  2. If the foal's passport is not to hand, the mare's passport must be ready for inspection prior to entry to the judging. Failure to comply with this rule will lead to immediate disqualification.
  3. Foals must be led at all times.
  4. Passports & (Microchips if applicable) should be read by a Vet at the Final.
  5. Two foals from selected shows may qualify for the final if the judges and The I.S.A. agree the standard is high enough.
  6. One of the judges at the qualifying show must be from the I D H Judges List.
  7. Foals qualified for the final are not eligible to enter any other class at the show where the final is held.
  8. The Qualifying Exhibitor must fill out their own Qualifying Card at each Qualifying Show.

A prize will be presented for Combination of Best Turned out Foal and Most Suitably Dressed Handler

Entry Fee: To Qualifying Show €15 / To Final €30

Final Ballinasloe Show Sunday 28th September 2025      No entries permitted on day of event.    

Equestrian - Opening Notes

Exhibitors please note:

  • Numbers will not be sent out but can be collected in the Horse Secretary Tent on the morning of the Show.
  • Horse boxes and Trailers, please follow road signs and Stewards directions on show day.
  • It is a requirement for all equines to travel with their passports. 
  • Equine premises number must accompany all entries.
  • While every effort has been made to avoid clashing, events on Show Day may cause classes to run late. 
  • Competitiors are asked to be on time.
  •  Lead Rein classes must be led by a person over 16 years of age (no age limit for the child on horse's back)
  • Riding independently classes (child must be 5 years old)
  • Inhand classes (child must be 5 years old)
  • Working Hunter over fences under 300mm (child must be 6 years old)

Note: Juniors- Don't forget to look at Junior classes in other sections of the show

PLEASE NOTE: Rings will begin on time. Please be on time for your classes to keep things moving. It is up to competitiors to be at the ring for the start of their classes. Rings and times are subject to change.


IMPORTANT NOTICE

  • Horse riding is a dangerous sport and all competitors in ridden classes are strongly advised, for their own safety, to wear appropriate head gear which complies to up-to-date safety standards.
  • Exhibitors are advised to ensure that their public liability policy covers the exhibition of livestock at Public Shows.
  • On arrival at the showground the driver and one handler per vehicle will be admitted free. All other passengers must pay. 
  • Horse Boxes & Lorries only in Equestrian Parking Area.

 

Mares and Foals - Opening Notes

Ring 6 at 10am.

  • COLLIER PERPETUAL CUP to the winner of the Carlow Broodmare non Thoroughbred, likely to make a high class sport horse
  • E.J. BYRNE ERRIGAL MEMORIAL CUP sponsored by Edward Byrne to the winner of the Registered Irish Draught Mare with foal at foot
  • HARDYMOUNT PERPETUAL CUP will be awarded to the Champion Broodmare
  • PARK HOUSE STUD PERPETUAL CUP will be awarded to the Champion Foal
